The only hard and critical “rule” to the Goth subculture is knowledge and respect for the bands and fashion that pioneered the movement. That’s it.
You don’t need to always wear black.
You don’t need to necessarily like the old school bands.
You don’t need to be ashamed to call yourself Goth.
You don’t have to be tolerant of mallgoths (but you can if you want to be).
You don’t have to wear silver.
You don’t have to own lacy skirts.
Or leather jackets.
Or pointy boots.
Etc etc etc.
